OPENING NIGHT: PIECES OF ME

On the 26th of September down a backstreet of Surry Hills, guests followed a candlelit path to a courtyard filled with moonlight, a bar and above it all in the darkness of twisted trees and starry night sky, a compilation of strange imagery of myself - projected larger than life on the jagged building. Inside the studio, white walls, white floor, sexy big mirrors and sleek lighting, the perfect blank canvas and an ideal space to present my latest series 'PIECES OF ME' 8 mixed media self portraits.

Leonard Mattis has created an amazing space, an exclusive salon and a venue that inspires.

Leonard commissioned me to fill his main wall in the salon (3300 x 2280) giving me complete creative freedom I decided to use an image of myself, caught by accident when shooting the images for my series... I printed the photograph out on Museum Quality Archival Paper (the biggest print I'd ever seen) and 3 of us stuck it to the wall (no easy feat), then I created it's bones and the mask out of the same paper using watercolor, graphite, ink, gouache... far from your ordinary wallpaper... a giant, gutsy image like no other.

That's what I most admire about Lenoard his desire to support creativity and his courage to take risks in the name of art. Not once did he question where I was going with the gigantic picture of myself covered in hair... he allowed me that rare and beautiful gift of letting my hair down to be myself and create freely.

Once the wall was complete I began work on the rest of the characters and everything started to come together for the show... it's not the easiest task putting on your own exhibition, managing everything from the art to the alcohol and the cleanup, that being said I am super proud of how it all came together and now it's all over I'm looking forward to beginning work on my next series.

I am always wonderfully surprised by amazing people that band together to support me!
Thank you to Luke Duggan, Leonard Mattis, Kiki Sjoberg, Mama Sita, Marc Debnam, Cassundra & Paris, Framing Dave, Andrew @ ALTA, Little Creatures Brewery, Rod & Rasa, Dan Gosse and all my wonderful guests for coming along!
